This blog chronicles the exploits of the Explorer Middle School Minority Achiever's Program or MAP. MAP is a YMCA funded after school program for minority and immigrant students to help them reach their educational and career goals. it is a completely free program and is only made possible by generous donors. We have a lot of fun in this program and I want to share some of our experinces.

Introducing M.A.P
So what is the Minority Achiever's Program you ask? Well according to our mission statement, we are a 'free program designed for minority and immigrant students to help them reach their education and career goals.' But we are so much more than our mission statement, or our flyer. It's a place for kids to come and make friends, hang out with people they don't normally hang out with, and not feel pressured about whether or not it's cool. It's a place to get homework done without distractions, where someone can help you if you're struggling. It's a place to experience new things - new places like college campues, and new activities like cooking, rock climbing, or even serving the elderly. It's a place to just hang out, where someone will listen to what's going on in your life. It's a place where, when you passed your math test, it's cause for celebration! M.A.P has changed all of our lives in one way or another, and it's just getting started.
